Generally misdemeanor charges are handled by a municipal court or mayor’s court.  These matters can range from speeding to domestic violence charges.  Ohio has five different levels of offense for misdemeanor charges.  They are:

  • Minor Misdemeanors – max penalty of $150 fine
  • Misdemeanor in the fourth degree – max penalty of $250 fine and 30 days in jail
  • Misdemeanor in the third degree – max penalty of $500 fine and 60 days in jail
  • Misdemeanor in the second degree – max penalty of $750 fine and 90 days in jail
  • Misdemeanor in the first degree – max penalty of $1,000 fine and 180 days in jail

While enrolled at the University of Toledo, College of Law, I interned at the Bowling Green City Prosecutor’s Office.  Based upon that experience and as a member of the Toledo Bar Association Municipal Court Committee and the Wood County Bar Association Municipal Court Liason, I can help in all misdemeanor matters.

Some charges carry mandatory driver’s license suspensions or jail sentences.  Any traffic or criminal charge should be taken seriously and you should consult an attorney to discuss the ramifications of any charge currently pending.
